One of the most difficult things is setting the price of your projects, jobs or services right.

The right price will tempt bidders to bid on your projects, jobs or service offers.

In order to set your price right you probably need to do some research, in order to determine what price normally is charged for your kind of project, job or freelance service offer.

Freelancers or contractors
If you are a freelancer or contractor who wish to auction his/her services you will probably start with a price which is a bit lower than is normally charged for the kind of services you offer.
This will tempt potential principals to bid on your services.

Setting your price too high at the start will discourage potential buyers of your services to bid.

In any case the start price you set should be the minimum amount you want to get for the services you offer.
Every bid above this minimum can then be considered as an extra fee.

Companies looking for freelancers or contractors
If on the other hand you are a company looking for freelancers or contractors, you have every reason to set your initial price as high as possible.
The higher the initial price you can set the more tempted people will be to bid on your projects or jobs.

But beware. The price you set at the start will also determine the price you will be paying when there are only a few bids placed on your project or job.

If you set your starting price too low, people will probably not bid on your projects or jobs.

So the best practice should be to set your starting price at the maximum you are willing to pay for your project or job.
Every bid below that price should be considered as an extra discount.
